Strong Traditions and Great Friendships
The first club in the Coachella Valley was established just outside of Palm Springs in the late 1950’s populated by giants of industry like Bill Ford. Into the 60’s more clubs would take root with former United States Presidents and entertainers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Bob Hope as members.
While the rest of the country was dealing with snow and rain, winter events such as the Bob Hope Desert Classic showcased golf and the perfect weather in the Palm Springs area. Interest in the California desert began to heat up.
In the early 70s Palm Desert Joint Ventures and Equitable Life Insurance formed a joint venture that would take advantage of this heightened awareness. This partnership endeavored to create a community that would appeal to well healed and discerning buyers.
It would have all of the amenities that appeal to affluent members of society.
The founders of the Springs chose a plot of land in Rancho Mirage that was close to Palm Springs, the airport and world class restaurants and shopping. It had easy access to the freeway and less wind than the other communities in the area.
It would be well protected and quiet. The community would have spacious homes, numerous pools, immaculately maintained common areas and all the best amenities of its day.
The clubhouse was created with timeless appeal and be large enough to entertain its membership with ease. The tennis park was be hailed as one of the best in California. The golf course was designed by one of the most noteworthy golf course architects and of the first golf pro would be a Masters Champion no less.
The dining and social events were such that it truly inspired lifelong friendships. To this day The Springs continues to be home to many of its original members.
In the early 1980s all of the available homes were sold and it was at that time the property was sold to the members. Today it remains one of the original private clubs of the Coachella Valley.
